Union Customs Code (UCC)
The Union Customs Code (UCC) simplifies the trade to and within the EU. UCC harmonises the customs procedures between the member states, increases the safety of goods and streamlines the processes. The main point of departure is that all customs declarations must be electronic. All companies importing or exporting to or within the EU are impacted: from manufacturers to warehouse keepers, 3PL’s, expeditors, customs expeditors, carriers, air freight transporters and port operators. The new UCC came into force on 1 May 2016. The new rules are gradually implemented, with 31 December 2020 as the end date.
Authorised Economic Operator (AEO)
The AEO licence is issued by customs to companies with international activities and which meet a number of safety criteria. AEO stands for Authorised Economic Operator. The AEO status is an internationally recognised quality label which shows that your role in the international supply chain is safe and that your customs inspections and procedures are efficient and compliant. AEO companies are less subject to control and inspection for cross-border trade and can enjoy a reduced or waived surety. For companies with a customs licence and/or customs sureties, AEO is a necessity.
